Gateway Ticketing Systems Celebrates 20 Years in Business
Boyertown, PA (January 2008) – Gateway Ticketing Systems, the world leader in high-speed admission control and ticketing software for the attraction, amusement, and intercity bus transportation industries, is celebrating its 20th year in business.
Founded in 1988 by Peter Grumblatt, Michael Andre and Darryl Moser in an old Berks County chicken coop, the company, with corporate headquarters in Boyertown, PA, now employs close to 100 people and provides sales, service, and support for ticketing systems throughout North America and worldwide.
In its 20-year history, Gateway has helped hundreds of customers spanning the globe develop a custom solution for their ticketing and admission control needs. The company has experienced significant success over the years, and it remains at the top of the industry by consistently producing cutting-edge software solutions that respond to the needs of the ticketing industry. Gateway recently announced the launch of its redesigned transportation product, Galaxy for Transportation, and will launch the latest version of its flagship point of sale product, Galaxy 4, next month.
Gateway established its beginning in the transportation industry by filling a request for a customized, automated ticketing system for a large New England bus company. Grumblatt recalls what ticketing was like at that time: “The ticketing system for bus companies was completely manual. Tickets were produced using a plastic card swiped over a multi-part form with carbon copies – sort of like the old, manual credit card processors. It was a major problem trying to produce them. If there were no cards for a ticket, they handwrote the information. At the end of each day there were mountains of carbon paper, and reports were created manually by totaling the carbon copies.“
Gateway’s first product, TX3280, automated most of the manual tasks customers had to perform and significantly improved ticketing and operations efficiency. According to Andre, now the president of the company, “TX was the only product of its kind at the time, and it revolutionized ticketing for the transportation industry.”
Now Galaxy products take efficiency to a whole new level. Andre said, “Our latest products have been built based on the knowledge and experience that Gateway staff has developed by working for years with the industry. These products are the platform for the future, upon which we intend to keep building features to benefit the industries we serve.”
When asked why he believes Gateway has not only survived but achieved significant success in a highly competitive industry, Andre identifies exceptional customer service. “We consistently treat our clients with honesty and respect, and we maintain this as our relationship develops. We also follow through on our commitments and provide the outcomes we promise,” he said. “We’re an industry resource, and our customers can come back to us whenever they have a need,” added Andre.
Vice President Darryl Moser believes that Gateway has a responsibility to give back to the Boyertown community of which it has been a part for so many years. “We want to be more than just a company that turns out product,” he said. One area the company focuses its giving on is internships for local community college and high school students. “Through the internship program,” Moser says, “we can help students get a handle on what they’re capable of doing in the future. And that helps to add value to the community.”
Since its founding, Gateway has been a multi-year recipient of the coveted Best New Product Award given by The International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA), a multi-year recipient of World Water Park Association’s Industry Leader award, and, as shown in its 21% employee growth since 1998, a multi-year recipient of Philadelphia Business Journal’s 50 Fastest Growing Technology Companies. The company was also recently named a winner of Inc’s 5000 Fastest-Growing US Businesses.
Gateway’s ticketing software has served a long list of satisfied customers since the company’s founding in 1988. Gateway is pleased to continue to provide a seamless solution with their latest Galaxy products. “Through it all we’ve maintained our focus on solving our customers’ issues and meeting their needs even as those needs change over time,” Andre said.
