Annual TASA Meeting Helps Shape Galaxy for Transportation

Boyertown, PA – (May, 2008) At the 2008 Transportation Automation Standards Association (TASA) meeting held in Clearwater Florida in May, members had the opportunity to contribute to the development of Gateway’s transportation-specific Galaxy for Transportation software product.

The annual TASA meeting provides a unique opportunity for Gateway customers to exchange ideas and network with Gateway developers and other Gateway product users.

Galaxy for Transportation is a comprehensive Point of Sale (POS) system developed for ticket agencies in the intercity bus industry. The software, a product of twenty years of software development that includes TX3280, Gateway’s first ticketing software solution for the transportation industry, extends to self-service ticket kiosks and online sales.

The highlight of this year’s meeting was the development of the Galaxy Transportation Web Page. Peter Grumblatt, founder of Gateway Ticketing Systems, Inc., led a demonstration of a newly designed prototype of this feature followed by an open discussion on functionality and requirements.

The Galaxy for Transportation Web Page expands sales capacity to the Web and to other channels, including ticket agencies and call centers. The module will be customizable and will integrate with Galaxy for Transportation.

Another highlight of the meeting was the decision to schedule weekly design sessions. These sessions will include Gateway staff and the Galaxy for Transportation Module group. These sessions were created for the purpose of coming up with a web store product that meets the needs of intercity transportation customers. Gateway will complete a functional specification for the transportation web store once enough input is gathered, and will review this with the participants before development begins.

Other meeting outcomes include a committee consisting of members from the TASA organization was established to manage naming conventions for tariffs. The goal of this committee is to provide standards that will make sharing of tariff data easier for the participants of TASA and particularly the users of the Galaxy Transportation Module.

Jim McGregor, Assistant General Manager of the Gateway Canadian Office, did a presentation about Galaxy Kiosk and how it can be used to increase revenue and exposure while enhancing passenger convenience with its easy-to-use interface and quick order pickup functionality.

Scott Trievel, Product Development Manager at Gateway wrapped up the TASA meeting with a presentation of Gateway’s Product Roadmap and an explanation of the key features currently in development. Features include TCP/IP support and Packages on the Web, among others.

Participants reported that they're excited about the new tools Galaxy for Transportation will provide and they feel good about being able to contribute to the direction it takes.
