The Louis Armstrong House, a National Historic Landmark established to preserve the cultural legacy of internationally acclaimed jazz musician Louis Armstrong, made the upgrade this month from Gateway’s Galaxy version 1.8 to 3.7. The Armstrong House operates in the home once lived in by Armstrong and his wife which was converted to a museum in October of 2003. Gateway Ticketing Systems is proud to be an integral part of helping the public access Armstrong’s legacy with a ticketing system designed to make ticket purchasing and processing fast, simple and seamless. This allows museum staff to focus on presenting Armstrong’s vast personal collection of home recorded tapes, manuscripts, scrapbooks and photos.
The ticketing system upgrade brought many new features that will greatly enhance security, provide the ability to produce more accurate reports and encrypt credit card transactions. The SQL server was also upgraded from MSDE to Microsoft’s SQL Server 2005 Express Edition, which offers a more user friendly interface and enhanced capacity.
The Louis Armstrong House also upgraded the hardware platform that provide improved performance and reliability on which to run the 3.7 version of Galaxy.
This new system will also provide better security for the database and enhanced flexibility to change taxes during a transaction. A gift shop offering postcards, t-shirts, books, CDs, red beans and rice, and other Armstrong-related items will use Point of Sale to for these transactions.
Exhibit areas in the house extend to the basement with displays of Armstrong’s gold-plated trumpets, scrapbooks, photographs, and other memorabilia. Other activities include concerts and educational programs about his life.
Ignacio Mosqueda, Gateway staff who was present for the installation said, “Overall it was a great transition to Galaxy 3. The Louis Armstrong administration and staff were pleased with the level of service Gateway provided and happy with the new functionality of the system. Galaxy 3 also provided the customer with more possibilities for future upgrades and additional modules such as the Pass and Membership module for use with memberships.”
