Long-time Gateway Customer Upgrades to Cutting-Edge Ticketing System with Gateway’s Galaxy 3

Boyertown, PA – (January, 2008) C&J Bus, a Gateway customer since 1992, recently completed the first phase of a two-phase upgrade to their ticketing system from Gateway’s TX3280 to Galaxy 3 Point of Sale.

C&J Bus provides direct bus service to Boston Logan Airport and Boston South Station from its three agency locations, located in Portsmouth, NH, Dover, NH and Newburyport, MA. A growing company with a reputation for excellent service, C&J realized that their ticketing and revenue management needs and requirements were changing as they grew. These growing pains led C&J to make the decision to upgrade to the new, cutting-edge Galaxy system so that they could continue providing top-notch service to their customers.

The initial phase of the upgrade included implementation of Galaxy Point of Sale (POS), Galaxy Payment Server and new hardware for all locations. This phase will enable C&J to streamline operations by making transactions faster, and by increasing the efficiency of their revenue management.

Susan Rockwell, System Administrator at C&J, said that the company was ready to make the necessary changes to keep the business running smoothly. She said, “We also wanted to connect our three locations so that we could make changes to the system, and make access to our data easier to manage. The ability to manage all locations from one central point was a key for us in the upgrade. We wanted the ability to integrate technologies such as online ticketing and wireless access control for our buses as well.”

The plan is to implement the second phase of the upgrade, which will include Galaxy Admission Control and eGalaxy Web Store modules, in the very near future. These will provide C&J with additional revenue control through Bus-side ticket scanning and it will increase revenue and customer convenience through online sales

Jon Schnell, Gateway Senior Support Technician, was onsite for the upgrade. He said that C&J was ready to take their business operations to the next level with an upgraded ticketing system. “Credit Card authorization was frustrating for them, as it was a stand-alone terminal and not connected to the system. This caused reporting issues,” he said. Schnell added, “C&J had originally been part of the Galaxy for Transportation project, but when they stopped interlining they realized that what they needed in order to move forward was standard Galaxy functionality.”

According to Rockwell, the improvements in the system have been significant. “Cash receipts are processed more quickly since chance for human error has been reduced, changes to the system can be done at our home office and instantly sent to all of our point-of-sale computers. There is less revenue lost due to price errors and forgetting to swipe credit cards,” she said

Rockwell reported that, “One of the biggest benefits of the new system is that it’s very easy to operate. Especially for our customer service agents. We can show someone how to use the system in 10 minutes or less.”

Now that C&J’s three locations are functioning as one through Gateway’s technologies and integration, they can confidently process passengers quickly, accurately and efficiently, while maintaining detailed and comprehensive tracking and reporting.
